Who Is Chef Mirek?
You may not know him, but you enjoy his fine cuisine every single day. Chef Mirek, is one of our best kept secrets in the Mill Point Catering department.
Mirek believes “everyone is VIP” and creates dishes show it. Whether he is cooking for an intimate group of four or a party of a hundred, the chef firmly believes that every meal should be of the upmost quality.
Where Is Mirek From?
From Poland, to Germany, to Austria, to the United States, Chef Mirek has cooked all around the world. A few years ago, Mirek had the opportunity to cook for the president of his home country of Poland and he treasures that memory. At home he has a flag signed by the president complete with a picture of him, Mirek, and his wife.
Mirek arrived in Alamance County 17 years ago, and his love for Elon University and the surrounding community has helped him build a home here in the States.
What Are Your Favorites?
During his time at Elon, some of Mirek’s favorite events include the annual Christmas Feast and President Lambert’s Holiday Party. He enjoys preparing creative spreads that feed the Elon community. One of his favorites is a Disney-themed cheese plate. Mirek keeps a picture of this edible Mickey Mouse on his desk to remind him of the amazing designs he can do!
The white sections are piped cream cheese, the black ears are blocks of brie with sesame seeds on top, the tongue is a red pepper, and the flowers are from Chef Mirek’s personal garden!
Who Do You Work With?
Mirek also enjoys collaborating with other chefs at Elon, all hailing from diverse backgrounds, to create unique blends of flavor. Chef Mirek works closely with Chef Pinky, originally from India, to test out different recipes for the international station in Lakeside Dining Hall.
What Do You Do Outside Of Work?
When Mirek is not putting in hard work in the Elon kitchens, he can be found working in his beautiful garden, remodeling his house, or experimenting with new and exciting recipes.
Why Do You Do What You Do?
Chef Mirek most enjoys receiving feedback from those who taste his food. “The most rewarding part of being a chef” he says, “is watching people enjoy the food you have made.”
